Networking with someone you didn't get an offer from?
A few months ago I had a superday for a corporate banking position in NY. The day before there was a networking reception, where I got a bunch of folks' business cards, including the head of the corporate banking division (whose daughter also goes to my school). He didn't do any of the interviews, and I doubt he keeps up to date on who got offers, so I thought maybe it'd be okay to keep in contact with him? I know normaly it's never a good idea to reach to anyone whom you interviews but didn't get an offer at, but I'm only considering this guy because he didn't do any of the interviews.
I want to do so for two reasons:
1. I already have a credit risk job in a BB lined up but thinking a little bit now on exit opps and I think corporate banking would be a feasible option, especially if I'm good relations with the head of corporate banking. I want to keep good relations with everyone I meet, if possible.
2. I met him only briefly during the superday but he did mention that he'd "prefer to have analysts get a CFA" and I wanted to ask him more about that. I also want to ask him this as way to keep in touch, but I am actually curious since I am considering going for the CFA designation.
