Goldman Sachs - GSAM Asset Finance

Hi all, I have an interview with GS Alternatives for an Asset Finance junior role. I believe it would be called  structured/project finance in another bank but not really sure what they do. I come from Structured Credit background. Its my last chance to be in the UK before my visa expires so I would appreciate any help.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

Asset Finance Overview

  • Asset Finance: Typically involves providing financing solutions for the acquisition of assets. This can include anything from real estate to equipment and infrastructure projects.
  • Structured/Project Finance: Often involves creating complex financial structures to fund large projects, such as infrastructure developments. This can include a mix of debt and equity financing, and often requires detailed financial modeling and risk assessment.

Transition from Structured Credit

  • Relevant Skills: Your background in Structured Credit will be beneficial as both fields require strong analytical skills, financial modeling, and an understanding of complex financial instruments.
  • Key Differences: While Structured Credit focuses on securitizing assets and managing credit risk, Structured/Project Finance is more about creating tailored financing solutions for specific projects or assets.

Career Path and Exits

  • Infra Funds: If your ultimate goal is to join an Infrastructure Fund, experience in Asset Finance can be a strong stepping stone. Many professionals in Infra Funds have backgrounds in Project Finance or Asset Finance.
  • Skill Development: Focus on developing skills in financial modeling, risk assessment, and understanding the regulatory environment, as these are crucial for both Asset Finance and Infra Funds.

Living and Working in the UK

  • Work Culture: The high-finance space in the UK, particularly in London, is fast-paced and competitive. Networking and building relationships are key components of success.
  • Visa Considerations: Since this is your last chance to be in the UK before your visa expires, securing this role could be crucial for your career trajectory.

I'm sorry, but it looks like this may be out of my ability to answer... maybe some of the links above might help?

Can anyone please share what does this mean

model, in excel, a portfolio of amortizing loans and calculate key profitability metrics? What can one expect in this modelling interview?
