KKR Private Credit Analyst - Portfolio Monitoring

Just received offer for this team in London. Comp is good and like the team. I am just wondering 3/4 years down the line is there scope to transition into origination either internally or make the move to another MF

Any insight would be appreciated.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from a portfolio monitoring role to origination is possible but not always straightforward. Within 3-4 years, you can build a strong foundation in credit analysis, portfolio management, and understanding deal structures, which are valuable skills for origination roles. However, making the move internally or externally often depends on:

  1. Internal Opportunities: Some firms, including MFs like KKR, may allow internal mobility if you express interest and demonstrate the necessary skills for origination. Networking within the firm and showcasing your ability to source and evaluate deals can help.

  2. External Transition: Moving to another MF or credit-focused firm for an origination role is feasible, especially if you leverage your experience in portfolio monitoring to highlight your understanding of credit risk and deal performance.

  3. Proactive Steps: To position yourself for origination, focus on:

    • Building relationships with deal teams internally.
    • Gaining exposure to deal flow or underwriting processes, even if informally.
    • Networking externally with professionals in origination roles.

While the transition is achievable, it requires strategic planning and effort to bridge the gap between monitoring and origination.
