Alfani Suits

Hey everyone,

I was just at Macy's and looked at a couple of their Alfani suits. They were regular price $450 on sale b/c of July 4th. Has anyone ever owned an Alfani suit or can anyone coment on their quality? They were being sold alongside Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Joseph Abboud, etc.

Also, would I be better off at Jos A Bank ot with an Alfani suit?

Much thanks.

Jos A Bank any day. My first suit I bought in college was a Calvin Klein from Macy's. Two years later I bought a suit from Jos A Bank and it is A LOT better. My CK now sits in my closet, unless I need to have two suits in a short period of time. And it is a CK not Alfani (big difference in my opinion).

Point is, if you are in undergrad the Alfani should get you by. I would, however, look into a better suit for full time interviews and your job. If you are already working, then not sure what to tell you. I am pretty dissapointed in Macy's, and rarely buy anything from there now.

On sale, the Jos Bank suit will be cheaper and much nicer. Can't comment on Alfani itself, but I checked out the material of suits at Macy's (like CK), and it was downright grainy. I couldn't imagine wearing it all day. Conversely, the Jos Bank suit (Signature - middle rung) I wore for interviews can be had for $400 on sale (I think they're actually $300 right now), and I can say that it is one of my most comfortable pieces of clothing. Not having started yet in the finance world, I can say that I've gotten many compliments on that suit as well.

Alfani anything is garbage, dont get department store brands. I was suckered into buying Alfani shoes once, but now i know better.

If youre willing to spend 300-400, you can do a lot better than Jos A Bank. Go scour the outlets, look at Nordstrom Rack and Filenes Basement, or look online on ebay or www.sierratradingpost.com, you can find tons of high-end designer suits for good prices, especially if you combine coupons and stuff.

Also look into getting your suits custom-tailored. I'm meeting up with a tailor from thailand this saturday, and the prices for his suits range from 250 to 450.

Lastly, search the forums for "interview suit." There are TONS of threads about this exact topic. Don't even think about buying a suit from Macy's on sale, I was there the other day and its all crap. And don't ever listen to salesman at Macy's or even Nordstrom, 75% of them wear suits that fit them improperly, thus I would never take advice from them.

Good luck
