Alternatives to AE?
I am looking for a monk-strap pair for more casual settings, but I have only ever worn AE (since internship) and I dont like AE monk-straps. I was wondering if someone here can recommend me some monk-straps that are in the same price range and have really good construction and comfort.
Have you looked at Paul Smith?
I may not be the best source since I also only have AE (except for like a pair of Johnston and Murphy slip ons), but I have heard nothing but good things from colleagues who wear Cole Haan as a bit cheaper alternative.
Cole Haan and Johnston & Murphy's are great, cheaper alternatives. However, there are some Ferragamo monk straps on nordstrom's website from time to time that are within the AE price range. I'd definitely check those out.
Well frankly man from what I understand you haver a certain range yet I would advise that even if it were just to browse, you take a look a John Lobb, Edward Green, and Bally. although these makers tend to be a tad bit more expensive, purchasing a solid pair of British shoes really can be a worthwhile investment. If properly maintained, they can literally last you a lifetime. Cheers.
BTW and before anyone jumps out to make the comment, Bally is Swiss
Alden although roughly twice as much as the AE's are really an amazing value even considering their price.

Meermin makes a good shoe. They ship from Spain and are handmade. I don't have experience with their monks, but they look decent.
