Apple Watch in IB?
An analyst I work with just got an Apple Watch and says he loves it. I’m a little hesitant on getting one, but the functions sound pretty cool. Thoughts?

What kind of functionality do you find so interesting? Personally don't think I could give up wearing a real mechanical Swiss watch, but to each their own. Plus i don't see the added benefit of having what is essentially another phone on my wrist.
I like how it tracks workouts and pretty much lets you not have your phone out. He says how you can have all your notifications pop up and access apps like Spotify without taking out your phone and distracting yourself
Totally understand that watch aficionados will prefer a mechanical watch but it’s funny to me that you’re focused on the Apple watch’s limited functionality. Isn’t a mechanical watch basically jewelry?
Patek or bust
This guy gets it, what is your favourite model?
Big aquanaut guy
Basic as fuck. What's next, making an account on Tik Tok doing a dance to "Savage, bougie, rachet, what's happening, what's happening"?
Definitely could see the utility of checking notifications and texts without risking your staffer or MD walking by at the wrong time and seeing you on your phone.
Obviously not going to have the steez of a nicer watch but honestly who cares, there's some apple watch bands and faces that look pretty nice
Yeah, I feel so awkward whipping out my phone and trying to cower in my desk when people walk by
Wouldn't the constant notifications get annoying on your watch?
nah, I like to stay up to date on them
It's a personal preference thing, but it's convenient to discreetly monitor notifications. I also track workouts and use it as an alarm clock -- also nice for Google Maps if you drive a lot.
Anyone know how the Hermès Apple Watch differ from the regular series 5? I can’t figure out why besides the $1k price difference. I feel like maybe that may be more respectable?
It comes with a cheap leather band and access to Hermès watch faces
So nothing different?? What a sham
Overpriced for what you get out of it. The faces are different at best, but not really a difference maker, and you would expect a nicer bracelet for that price. Part of the appeal is to have something different than a traditional watch, and adding a traditional-ish bracelet makes it mostly weird.
Keep in mind they might be relatively rare in NYC, but go out west and you will see plenty in IB.
Mainly for convenience. It allows you to keep up on all notifications without having to check your phone all the time.
It's useful at lunches, coffee breaks, workouts because you can focus on the conversation/workout at hand and not worry about missing an important email or update (without checking your phone constantly which can look rude).
In terms of fitness, there's a heart rate monitor and VO2 max tracker which come in handy.
.
Get whatever you feel you want man. I personally love that actual watches are a very customizable part of a guy's wardrobe and can be a statement or personal passion which is rare for a professional setting. Apple watches aren't my vibe due to it being essentially an extension of my phone but have seen tons of guys, regardless of industry, rocking one daily
lotta fat MDs wear it
Yeah, square watches are just ugly
And shows you have no taste
If you have some extra $ laying around and are into tech go for it.
I prefer a regular watch but have been using my apple watch a lot more recently.
Best use cases for me are when I'm driving and want to change spotify songs, if someone calls i can answer right from the watch, and it vibrates and displays direction changes when you're using it with google maps.
It can become super distracting if you don't turn 'do not disturb' mode on when you're trying to get work done.
