Black dress or nicer brown loafers

Starting at a BB in NYC for an IB SA role and was wondering if it really matters what shoes I wear. I’ve heard that all that matters is that the shoes and the belt match but also have heard from some that black is more professional and standard in the industry, some clarity on this would be great.
