Black Suits for Women?
I think it goes without saying that wearing black suits to the office is a no-go for men, but what about women, especially for interviews? I've noticed from my on-campus recruiting events that men are generally wearing navy or charcoal suits, but it is not uncommon for the women to be wearing black blazers with their dresses or a black pantsuit/skirt. I've heard mixed opinions about black pantsuits from people in law, consulting, and finance, so I wanted to know what the people who have experience in ib or consulting think.
Black is an acceptable option for women in most instances. Unlike men, we can wear different colored blouses/accessories to tone down the look. I've gone an entire career without owning a single navy or charcoal suit - the closest I've ever gotten is one in "dove grey" - and it has never been an issue.
For men, highly-saturated colors should be limited to accessories. Women don't have these restrictions when it comes to color palette, so black is fine.
