Business/Smart Casual

I have an in person interview where the recruiter told me that business casual or smart casual will be fine. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should get specifically the shirt and shoes?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some recommendations for building a business casual or smart casual wardrobe for your interview:

Shirts:

  • CT Shirts (Charles Tyrwhitt): Known for their quality and fit. They offer a range of styles and sizes, making it easier to find a perfect fit.
  • Banana Republic: Offers three different fits and a variety of sizes, which can be almost a perfect fit for many.
  • Indochino: Made-to-measure shirts that, once fitted correctly, provide an excellent fit.
  • Proper Cloth: Uses a 12-question survey to ensure a perfect fit with a quick turnaround.
  • Nordstrom: Carries many solid brands, providing a variety of options.
  • Brooks Brothers: Known for their quality, especially if you can catch them on sale.

Shoes:

  • Invest in Quality: Since you'll be wearing these shoes frequently, it's worth investing in a good pair. Comfortable and durable shoes are essential.
  • Wingtips and Strong Brown Shoes: These are generally preferred for their style and versatility.
  • Avoid Square-Toed Shoes and Slip-Ons: These are generally not recommended for a business casual look.
  • Amazon or Local Malls: Great places to find deals on quality shoes.

Additional Tips:

  • Fit is Key: Ensure that your clothes fit well. A slim person should avoid classic cut shirts, and a wider person should avoid slim fits.
  • Conservative Choices: Stick to conservative styles and colors. Avoid gaudy logos or silly colors.
  • Match Accessories: Always match your belt to your shoes and your socks to your pants.

By following these guidelines, you'll be well-prepared for your interview with a polished and professional business casual or smart casual look.
