For sub-$500, I'd go with a Seiko.

Yeah, get a Seiko if you are a peasant.

Buy a Tissot, or a Movado that's on sale. Two fine swissmade watch companies.

Davosa Ternos Diver ist by far the best Sub look a like since it already has a ceramic bezel, good built quality and an Swiss-ETA 2824 movement. U should buy it used because afaik price is a little above your mentioned budget

Oris or Invicta come to my mind, although I have no idea of the actual price point. Invicta should be in the range at least.

Can't go wrong with a Seiko. I'd also check out Orient.

If it's cheap it's for a reason.
