Cheap ties
As a student I can't really afford $100 designer ties...what is the cheapest place / website to get ties that don't look cheap and are decent quality? I checked out tiecoon.com, is it just sites like these?

Banana Republic has very solid ties for $40ish. Just stay away from the skinny ties at all costs.
what's wrong with Macy's?
No reason for you to buy $100 ties. Go to Macy's
Go to Macy's, JcP but make sure the silk of the tie is stiffer because the cheaper ties tend to have mushy silk which doesn't make a solid knot.
Currently wearing a $20 tie from JcP.
Brooks Brothers outlet 3 for 75
Macy's. Agree with the silk comment. I have a Geoffrey Beene from Macy's from high school, all silk, and it never made good knots. Can also get great bulk lots on EBay but that can be a little risky sometimes.

Well, if you really want cheap ties why don't you just buy them on ebay? There are a lot of sellers there that sell ties made in China for $5 bucks and most of them are pretty damn ugly, but you can find some nice looking ones and they're pretty decent quality too.
Whats your opinion on these? Stafford® Essentials Happy Dot Tie (wont let me put link) Jcpenny
Three options:
-- Century 21 down by Wall Street (I recommend going at off hours so you're not overly crowded)
-- Go to the Suit Supply store in Soho and take a look at the huge tie wall -- it's great quality for the money.
-- Also, look at www.thetiebar.com -- they're inexpensive enough that you can order a whole shitload of them.
http://www.thetiebar.com for 15 dollar ties. They're endorsed by GQ Magazine.
Thanks for the tips! I'm looking to buy a burgundy and a navy tie, and I've picked a few on thetiebar.com
Would these be good to wear with white shirt and charcoal or navy suit?

They're not bad. Whatever you do decide to buy, stick to four basics: solids, pindots, striped (club), and simple geometrical shapes.
