Go to Macy's, JcP but make sure the silk of the tie is stiffer because the cheaper ties tend to have mushy silk which doesn't make a solid knot.

Currently wearing a $20 tie from JcP.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Macy's. Agree with the silk comment. I have a Geoffrey Beene from Macy's from high school, all silk, and it never made good knots. Can also get great bulk lots on EBay but that can be a little risky sometimes.

Three options:

-- Century 21 down by Wall Street (I recommend going at off hours so you're not overly crowded)

-- Go to the Suit Supply store in Soho and take a look at the huge tie wall -- it's great quality for the money.

-- Also, look at www.thetiebar.com -- they're inexpensive enough that you can order a whole shitload of them.

jjrl2004Thanks for the tips! I'm looking to buy a burgundy and a navy tie, and I've picked a few on thetiebar.com

Would these be good to wear with white shirt and charcoal or navy suit?

They're not bad. Whatever you do decide to buy, stick to four basics: solids, pindots, striped (club), and simple geometrical shapes.
