Clothes for West Coast banks?

Starting ft and it seems like the culture is less suit oriented. Don’t really own any work clothes so would like to get a sense of how many and what types of suits, shirts, pants, shoes to get. Thanks!

I remember wearing a suit on day 1 and then progressively stripping off clothes until I matched the others. There is a wide range of dress codes at different West Coast banks but generally, you can't go wrong with some kind of reasonable business casual. At minimum I think 3-5 button down shirts, a few pairs of pants, and two pairs of shoes, rotate and mix/match. One suit is probably fine to get away with, perhaps you have this from interviewing or summering somewhere, if not I wouldn't spend less than $500 on a suit.

If you're buying everything new and starting from scratch, it should be less than $1,500 in total.

Can't edit post so replying here. With respect to brands, it's pretty usual to see something on the level of Bonobos, J Crew, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers...

... you don't have to buy Turnbull & Asser, David Donahue, or Ralph Lauren purple label.
