Guys Wearing Pastel Colors (Casual Wear)
I was wondering what your opinions are on guys wearing a lot of pastel colored clothing casually (i.e. GTH pants, etc.). I feel as though I couldn't really pull them off, but do you think they look good generally or does it look strange/feminine?
WASPY yes, not so much effite as hipster wear often can be...
Just my opinion. If I'm not at I'm wearing sweatpants or jeans. I hate the idea of 'casual wear'. I'm working.....or I'm playing/relaxing.
Depends if you are north or south of the Mason Dixon.
I assume you're implying it's okay if you're north?
The complete opposite, outside of Connecticut, maybe.
Hah, I only asked because when I think of those kinds of pants, I associate with WASP, New England, Lax bros and old money.
When I wear a lavender suit with a matching lavender hat and shoes I get a lot of attention from women.
If you can pull it off go for it. During the summer and depending on the evenironment I may have some colorful shorts and shirts.
@"UFOinsider" I wish I could have on sweatpants every single day. It is often that all I wear is suits and sweats
i absolutely despise when guys wear pastel colors. salmon shorts with a seafoam green button down. pls go you look like dora.
Nothing wrong with the southern proper / northeastern preppy look, if you can pull it off
Yeah nothing wrong, you just look like a moron.
That's your opinion. I think it depends on your location and the level of prep we are talking about. Aggressively wearing too many colors everyday is considered bad taste almost everywhere. In my southern city, it is acceptable to wear pastels moderately. An example of over doing it is Donnie in Wolf of Wall Street the entire time or these boners in this picture...

One pastel item is fine, but do everyone a favor and don't dress like a sherbet swirl.
I think it's always good to stand out through fashion if you're comfortable with it
Pastel colors make the wearer look desperate for attention and affection.
They're called "spring colors", and yes, they're appropriate at times (EG: spring). I personally would not wear pink or purple but light blue and light green are clearly appropriate for casual wear. Especially for shirts.
Edit: don't go crazy or dress like an Ice Cream salesman. Use reasonable judgment.
There nothing wrong with pastel, as long as it isn't to bright. VV shirts/shorts are all my friends and I wear in the summer. Perfect for almost any occasion that is casual.
In moderation it isn't a big deal. You should moderate both how often you wear it and how much you wear at one time. Always being the guy in bright pastels is a bit odd and seems like you're trying too hard to stick out and make a statement. Additionally, if you have a pastel hat, polo, khakis, and sperry's on at the same time, you look like a tool. Typically, try to have only one pastel item on at a time. If you want to wear a pastel shirt, fine. But, wear a plain pair of shorts/slacks like khaki.
Casual is just that...casual. Throw out the rule book and wear what you are comfortable wearing. Growing up in the south I have always worn seersucker, madras, and pastels in the spring/summer. So do most of my friends.
If you are going to stick out like a sore thumb, just be prepared to get stares and questions. Also jokes from your friends.
