Interview Attire, Quick Response Needed

Hey guys--

What are your thoughts on the following suit/shirt/tie combination? I am concerned about matching a navy suit with a striped navy tie.

Suit (BB Fitzgerald, solid midnight navy)

Tie (Navy, white stripes)

Shirt is white.

Thanks, guys.

Why don't you just let your mother dress you, big boy

I’m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff—I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them.

From the one percent of people who actually notice and care about these things, the tie stripes are running in the wrong direction.

You want them to point up, indicating an optimistic market, market growth, etc... not down.

Not suggesting this tie at all, but note the direction that the stripes on the hermes ties flow. http://uk.hermes.com/man/ties/classic/heavy-silk/tie-heavy-silk-perfect…

Can't you pick up a contrasting colour like maroon or crimson with stripes in the opposite direction? I'd link to a picture, but don't like any on the brooks brothers website...

The comment about the direction of the stripes is unadulterated BS. Besides, when you look in the mirror, they'll be pointing in the "correct" direction.

Honestly, if you're applying as an undergrad, no one really cares about your fashion sense. After all, if you have nice stuff it's probably only because your parents shelled out. That being said, your tie should usually contrast with your suit. Some basic maroon or crimson pattern will be fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're a first year analyst, in consulting, coming from science degree, right? I don't expect you to know some of the stuff that they teach you at business school about signalling.

But I said that it matters to about 1% of people. And people do notice it, as all the forums on "Askandyaboutclothes" show. How can you claim its BS?

Honestly, British people tend to notice this stuff straight away.

I mean sure, if you like signalling "I shop at Brooks Brothers for my ties," it's your prerogative, and go with the American stripe. But I prefer the British stripe, with the stripes falling from the heart, and I'm definitely not the only one.

The story I gave was intended not as a reason, but was intended as a memory tool to remember.
