Is it bad to use synthetic diamonds for an engagement ring?
Hi, I'm considering purchasing an engagement ring and was wondering if using a synthetic diamond is frowned upon? I'm leaning toward this option for ethical reasons.

No, the whole diamond industry is a scam, and the custom of engagement rings is the result of the "A Diamond is Forever" De Beers marketing campaign that started around the late 40s. Men basically got shamed, guilted, and manipulated into dropping half their net worth into a diamond ring to make De Beers rich, and the custom stuck. Give her what you believe is right and can reasonably afford. You have bigger issues to address in a marriage than a ring, she's marrying you, not the ring. If the ring is a deal breaker for her then you probably don't want to wake up to her for the rest of your life. It only gets worse from there.
Btw a lot of jewelers can't even tell the difference between the two diamonds.
