J. Crew Loro Piana Ludlow Suit

I have read good things about these suits - the material is apparently all authentic Loro Piana as is the badge. I own only SuitSupply so far ranging from $499-$1299, but I decided it may be time to try another brand. I have a pretty good frame for suits (tall/slim with broad shoulders), so I am comfortable buying off the rack and getting it altered.

Curious if anyone has experience with this suit, Link below

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and advice regarding suits and brands:

  1. Suit Brands and Quality:

    • SuitSupply: Known for high-quality suits ranging from $499-$1299. They are well-regarded for their durability and fit.
    • J.Crew: Specifically, the Loro Piana Ludlow Suit is noted for using authentic Loro Piana material, which is a mark of quality. This could be a good step up if you're looking to diversify your wardrobe.
  2. Suit Features:

    • Fabric: Loro Piana fabrics are highly regarded. For a lighter, more comfortable suit, consider fabrics with a higher Super (S) count, such as Super150+.
    • Fit: Given your tall and slim frame with broad shoulders, buying off the rack and getting it altered is a practical approach. Ensure the jacket is structured for a fuller look and resilience to wrinkling.
  3. General Suit Advice:

    • Color: Navy is a versatile and professional choice for a suit.
    • Lining: Structured suits with silk lining are recommended for their durability and appearance.
    • Patterns: For a more formal look, consider plain patterns like sharkskin or subtle Prince of Wales.
  4. Additional Tips:

    • Tailoring: Even with off-the-rack suits, alterations are often necessary for the best fit. Common areas needing adjustment include jacket sleeve length and pant hemming.
    • Shoes: Upgrade your oxfords from brands like Allen Edmonds (AE) to higher-end options if desired.
