Luxury Sport Watch vs Separate Sportwatch + Rolex

Already looking at what to spend bonus on and am looking to upgrade from current apple watch.

I am thinking about either getting the Garmin Marq Aviator(Gen 2) for $2.4k to track all health & fitness as well as wear to work/nice events, OR separating health/fitness and luxury with a Garmin ForeRunner 965 ($600) and pairing with rolex or other luxury watch $5-7k? Obviously second option more expensive but am thinking about long term benefits of either option, would also get luxury watch maybe a year later if I go with option 1.

Any thoughts appreciated, what do you all do that like to track health/fitness and balance fashion/luxury?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

Option 1: Garmin Marq Aviator (Gen 2) - $2.4k

  • Pros:
    • Combines health and fitness tracking with a luxury appearance.
    • Suitable for both work and nice events.
    • One device to manage, simplifying your routine.
  • Cons:
    • Higher initial cost compared to a basic fitness tracker.
    • May not have the same prestige or recognition as a dedicated luxury watch like a Rolex.

Option 2: Garmin ForeRunner 965 ($600) + Rolex or Other Luxury Watch ($5-7k)

  • Pros:
    • Garmin ForeRunner 965:
    • Advanced health and fitness tracking features.
    • More specialized for fitness enthusiasts.
    • Rolex or Other Luxury Watch:
    • High prestige and recognition.
    • Long-term investment potential.
    • Can be worn to high-end events and professional settings.
  • Cons:
    • Higher overall cost.
    • Managing two devices can be cumbersome.
    • Delayed gratification if you plan to buy the luxury watch a year later.

Community Insights:

  • Luxury Watches:
    • According to "The Banker's Guide to Watches" on WSO, many finance professionals prefer luxury watches like Rolex for their status and investment value.
    • Watches like IWC and Omega are also popular choices among professionals.
  • Health & Fitness:
    • In the "Staying fit while traveling?" thread, users emphasize the importance of having reliable fitness tracking, especially for those with busy schedules.

Recommendations:

  • If you prioritize convenience and a unified device: Go for the Garmin Marq Aviator. It offers a blend of functionality and style, suitable for both fitness tracking and professional settings.
  • If you value long-term investment and prestige: Opt for the Garmin ForeRunner 965 paired with a Rolex or another luxury watch. This option provides specialized fitness tracking and the added benefit of a high-status timepiece.

Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities and lifestyle. If immediate convenience and a single device are crucial, the Garmin Marq Aviator is a solid choice. However, if you can manage the higher cost and prefer the prestige of a luxury watch, the second option might be more rewarding in the long run.
