Menswear - Dressing as an AN1
I’m an incoming analyst at an EB (probably not relevant but maybe for group size), and I’m into men’s fashion and have expressed that through college. I know dress codes are getting looser and looser (observed that during my summer), but I like dressing up in suits or at least jackets all the time. That part seems like no problem, but more extravagant fashion choices (different suit fabrics, double-breasted, more unique shoe styles like tassels, or sweaters under suits) seem like they will draw a lot of attention.
How have other juniors navigated the culture around fashion and managed to keep exercising expression through their clothing choices?
Would appreciate help here, thanks
Do not dress to stand out.
Blue, charcoal, black, khaki pants. White, blue solid shirts. Simple (like gingham) patterns with normal colors. Brown or black shoes, most places are probably cool with sneakers but don't take a shot without observation (I think it makes people look remarkable unprofessional). Wear a belt that matches your shoes, limit the non-watch jewelry, clean shaven, normal hair.
This isn't the time to show off or dress for the club, you should really never get attention for your wardrobe apart from how well things fit because you got it tailored.
Dress smart, but don't be a fop. The things you're describing as extravagant are foppish. Dress smarter than your peers, but don't be a dandy.
You should aspire for the dull halo, the dull glow of "that guy really takes care of himself and represents himself well," and not the neon light that says "look at all the choices I can make."
“Fop” “dandy” are you 90 years old?
MD's son, dont mind him.
Fr, I had search what they mean.
Being a shoe guy is fine, I knew plenty of shoe guys in IB. Also saw guys doing the sweater under jacket thing . . I thought it was weird but nobody said anything.
But no double breasted at work. That is aggressive AF. Appropriate for Godfather-themed parties and that's it.
Sounds very fair to me, thanks
I have never understood why people wear a sweater under their suit jacket. It is not fancy.
If you‘re in Europe, make sure to wear black shoes please
I’m not but I know the rule
brown shoes are fine in Europe - matches navy suits better
Very dark brown yes. It's a very American thing and just as ugly every time when guys pull up with a blue suit with light brown cap toes.
brown shoes with a blue suit is appalling
no brown into town
oxfords not brogues
but if fridays are a casual/dress down day, absolutely nothing against wearing brown shoes/boots
Only addition to the four responses above: no bike toe dress shoes.
Also, as a man you can always dress down. So when in doubt, wear layers and adapt when necessary.
Good news is they’re not my thing anyway
How do people feel about a very subtle pinstripe on a dark navy suit?
bump
Somewhat daring, for the worst. I think a subtle deep navy herringbone is the more tasteful option
You can be into fashion without being obnoxious. double breasted and tassels fall into the obnoxious category.
Full Rick
Tassel loafers... This isn't Django Unchained and you're not Calvin Candie; burn that shit.
Nothing wrong with exercising expression, just have some taste Jesus Christ.
