For a summer analyst at a BB in NYC, here are some solid recommendations based on the most helpful WSO content:

Suits

  • Macy's: Great for affordable, slim-cut, 100% wool suits. Look out for big sales events and stack coupons for additional discounts. You can find decent suits for under $250.
  • Banana Republic: Offers modern, well-fitted suits. Keep an eye out for sales, as you can often snag items at 50% off.
  • Express and Zara: Perfect for budget-friendly, modern, slim-fit suits in the $100-$200 range.

Dress Shirts

  • Brooks Brothers: Classic white and blue shirts, priced around $80-$100.
  • Charles Tyrwhitt: Affordable and stylish, typically $30-$50 per shirt.
  • TM Lewin: Another great option, with shirts around $40.

Dress Pants

  • Stick to darker colors like black, charcoal, or grey for NYC. You can find good options at Banana Republic or J.Crew.

Shoes

  • Aldo: Affordable and stylish dress shoes. If you already have black, consider adding a brown pair to pair with a matching belt.

Ties

  • The Tie Bar: Offers conservative, classic designs for around $20.
  • Cheap Neckties: Budget-friendly options ranging from $5-$20.

Tips

  • Try suits in person to ensure a proper fit, then consider purchasing online if you find better deals.
  • Focus on a modern, slim aesthetic fit, as it's more in line with current trends.
  • Prioritize quality over quantity, especially for items like suits and shoes that will see heavy use.

This mix of stores and brands should help you build a sharp, professional wardrobe without breaking the bank!

I second Suitsupply. Cut is a bit on the slim side but you should be fine imo. If you need dress shirts and the like Charles Tyrwhitt is a popular choice, but you should also check out Kamakura Shirts. Really high quality stuff, but their armholes might be cut too high for your liking. Ascot Chang is also fantastic.

Hop on a bus to Woodbury Commons. All the menswear outlets there will have good suits in the $300-400 range per suit. Can pick up 3 or so.

Charles Tyrwhitt is your best bet for dress shirts. Their 4 shirts for $260 is a good deal. I really like Kamakura for shirts but at $110 a pop minimum, a bit pricey out the gate for SA

Suit supply and Spier and Macky are both great. The latter is base in Toronto but their sizing are very similar to Suit Supply. Make sure to get your suits altered (especially the sleeves and the hems of the pants)
