Suit colour recommendations

Tomorrow I´m going to a tailor to get two new suits custom made but I´m still unsure about which colours I should get. I was thinking of one charcoal and one black pinstripe. Is the black pinstripe alright or should I go for a different gray instead? I already have a dark navy suit so I don't really want another blue one.

First choice should always be navy blue. Combine this with a charcoal suit and you're all set. Definitely stay away from black. Even though it probably will look good on you if properly tailored, a black suit should only be worn at funerals and formal occasion (i.e. tux)

Get 3 piece suit with peaked lapels, mother of pearl buttons, flap pockets, double vents, windowpane/sharksin/nailhead patterned, and get a pocket square that’s the same color of the tie but a slightly lighter shade, and then get a paisley tie to symbolize your erratic and unhinged nature.

The suit should be tailored by a saville row house. As for color, don’t go with those boring grays and navy blues, go with a red or green or brown but never go pastel.

I would start with conservative navy & charcoal for the first two. Then go for one of the two below for a third option:

  • "Middle" grey or blue suit (between dark and light) without or with very limited pattern e.g. slightly lighter thin pinstripes, muted checked pattern

  • Charcoal/ navy suit with a relatively muted pattern e.g. slightly lighter thin pinstripes, some check pattern

For pattern inspiration, I tend to find that the fabrics of the suits you find on Zegna's website allow for some differentiation without going overboard.
