Suits for athletic build

Do any of the more athletic users here know the most cost effective places to buy a suit? Having some trouble finding quality separates for a 12 inch drop, places like Macy's only offer their cheapest lines this way and I would rather not spend $1,000 for a custom suit. Tailoring a normal suit will not work either because taking a 40inch waist down to a 34 ruins the pants.

Any recommendations? There most be a few people here with the same issue after reading some of the past workout posts.

SirBarneyA 12-inch drop? Are you Johnny Bravo?

Also, how tall are you? etc...

A 10-12 inch drop isn't that unheard of with people who workout, which is why I'm surprised more stores / brands do not cater to it. I'm 5'11 and about 200lbs, jacket is 46R, 34 pants would be ideal, can make a 35 work but 36 will bunch up. For some reason whenever a tailor takes anything above a 38 waist down to 34-35 it messes up the pockets.

Joke brah, I'm an athlete also. What stores have you tried? Have you been to an upscale stores such as Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue?

The pockets mess up cause the seam that they use to take the pants in is in-between the pockets so inherently if you take too much then the pockets get screwed.

I had a lot of trouble with this back when i was in the market for a suit also. When I finally found one that fit on certain parts of me, it would hang like a zoot suit on others. Just try athletic fits, some work better than others. I was crossing off enter places by just walking in, asking if they carried athletic fit, and getting no's. Not sure if the style is "uncommon", or what the case was there.

I know you said you're trying to avoid dropping the $1K for a custom, but man - just do it. Based on your description I'd say I'm a similar build to you, and from my experience it is almost impossible to make an off the rack suit work.

The thing is, even if it does "work" you aren't going to feel nearly as confident in it compared to a nice bespoke suit that is perfect.

I'm having the same issue. I've tried almost every suit off the rack from 44 R/L to euro 54 R/L and nothing fits. I guess I'm going to have to get a custom suit. For reference, I'm 6'0 ft 215 lbs. PM me if you find a solution, thanks

Like somebody above posted...a lot of places do not carry athletic or slim fit styles. There aren't many options, Either get a custom suit or do what I just did and get a decent suit on sale for a few hundred (Nordstrom's annual sale) then find a Eastern European tailor who will basically cut the whole thing apart and reconstruct it to fit you. This is only a good option if you get the suit on sale though because this much tailoring is also expensive.

I'm a 10" drop so I know where you're comin' from, and I used to just kind of deal with it and try to get the pants altered at JWN or wherever I bought the suit from, but once you get your first custom suit you're going to never want to go back... just drop the money for custom if you're a 12" because most places aren't going to cater to that.

I am a 12 drop as well (48/36), and have struggled with this for years. Custom will have to be the way to go or else you will never be satisfied unfortunately.
