Can't speak to independent tailors, didnt see any while there. I can say that major names, Brooks, RL etc. are MUCH more expensive over there. Talking 10-20% premium over US msrp..hardly any sales.

I have been to Dubai ten or twelve times. Do not buy anything there unless you go to the Gold Souk. Save your suit money for London or Hong Kong.
If you have not made hotel reservations, stay at either Madinat Jumeirah Hotel or the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. If you want to stay downtown, stay at the JW Marriott. The steakhouse there is pretty good.
I've been there a few times and have done research to try to find good places to have clothes made, and there really isn't much that's any good and a good value. I agree with FHD - just go to HK.
