I like Carmina and Crockett & Jones for horsebit loafers in the $500 dollar range, so half of what the Gucci loafers cost. Wear what you like. If people are bothered by what loafers you're wearing, then they need to touch grass.
Meermin is also a great value, but they are very painful to break in
Any advice on sizing for Crockett & Jones or Meermin ?
I have Meermin loafers and got half a size down from my sneaker shoe size. They're pretty painful to wear though even after three months. If you're in NYC you should definitely try them on in store
