Upscale sneakers are often permitted, especially black ones that look much better.

Otherwise I would normally go for comfortable leather shoes, no dress shoes though that look too formal.

 

lol I went to Le Bernardin in sneakers (think Yeezy Zebra) and hoodie (I was new to the US and not aware of dress codes at restaurants at the time), so I doubt anyone will stop you. With that being said, several brands sell in-betweens (you can check out Berluti's leather sneakers for example).

 

I prefer to go barefoot so that people can look at my untrimmed nails and give me obnoxious glances
