Winter jacket for business casual
As a person who lives in a year round warm weather climate, I'm sort of a oblivious to the world of cold weather business attire. In the coming months, ill be on an engagement in Boston - which will require a winter jacket. If the office attire is business casual, what type of jacket is acceptable? Is a north face/patagonia type fleece too casual?
Get a peacoat. Perfect business casual jacket which also works for nights out.
Peacoat or full length.... Peacoat will probably be better for casual like Jamess1 said.
You can probably find a deal on one this weekend...

This one.
A north face fleece is a bit too casual in my opinion but I think you could get away with an Apex jacket of theirs, which would be pretty versatile. What BTbanker linked is definitely good also.
I mentioned this in another thread, but a great business coat is a wool herringbone topcoat. It can be worn over a suit, with a T-shirt, and anywhere in between. Just make sure to look for a 3/4 cut that lands around your thigh region.
Haha appreciate the advice but I think I'm sticking with a northface. Just couldn't bring myself to wear a wool coat.
Gotta say I'm loving that first coat BT posted. Mid-thigh break > full length overcoat >>> waist-length > hip level
Somewhat unusual, but could you get away with a jacket like this for fall/early winter if business casual?

Or really any of the Orvis/Barbour type field coats?
I like that a lot but I think it may be a bit too casual, really depends on the firm though.
Barbour jackets (Originally Posted: 11/28/2013)
I need a casual jacket for the winter weather and I've been thinking Barbour but my concern is that they are not warm enough and they are a little too ubiquitous. Specifically, I like the look of the Stratus but I have no idea how warm it is. Any reviews/other recommendations besides Barbour?

Go for it dude, it's made so you can either put the insulation in or wear something underneath. As for your view that it's ubiquitous, just think about the timing of your question and be thankful that you live in such an environment.
I wear a Zegna Sport coat (in NY). It's not too thick (has removable inside vest) but is functional and fashionable.
That Barbour coat doesn't seem like something to walk into the office in... also kind of screems Brooklyn. Just my 2 cents
