Worth buying 4 pairs of suit pants off Amazon for SA in NYC?

I have 2 full suits - a grey and a navy one. I will be interning at a consulting firm in New York starting next month and have been told that while the expected attire is business professional, suit jackets are generally not needed in the summer. For this reason, I'm thinking of leaving both my $400 suits at home and just buying 4 cheap pairs of suit trousers off Amazon for $30 each to wear with white/light blue dress shirts. Reason being that I don't want to go through the nice pants of my suits if I'm not going to be wearing the jacket at all in the summer.

Those working full time, thoughts?

If you need cheap pants and want to make sure they fit just hit a Men’s Warehouse. Then you can try them on at least and hem them if need be. Good luck at the internship.

I would not trust $30 suit pants. My guess is they will look crazy cheap and be low quality. Agree with not wearing out suit pants, but go find a mid-range pair in between that looks reasonably nice.

Also you should show up day 1 in a suit. And if they told you business professional I'd at least HAVE a suit during your internship / leave a jacket on back of chair. Most firms are strictly business casual so you should assume dressier than typical firms if business professional is the word they used

I think the product you are looking for is dress pants. They might be more or less the same as suit pants, although probably come in more varieties, and higher likelihood of finding a good product at a low price.

Now the question is whether you should wear a suit knowing that people usually do not wear the jacket in summer. If the dress code calls for suits, I might want to have the jacket around I think, for those occasional moments when you need to look formal.

In your position I think I would go in with the suit for a week, and see what the deal is, then make a decision about your pants.

Another option is to wear your dress pants, and then keep your suit in your workspace, if that's possible. In a pinch, say an important meeting, you quickly run to the bathroom and don your suit, avoiding the possibility of being, as an intern, the only one in the meeting without a jacket.
