Zoom interviews - Suit and tie?
Anyone interviewing for IB positions in a collared shirt? Have been in a suit and tie for my interviews but wanted to see about others

I usually do with white shirt, navy suit jacket, a simple patterned tie. No pants of course.
No pants is quite bad, gym pants with shirt tucked in is the classy man's way
Or underwear
Oh yea I mean no suit pants. Gotta tuck the shirt into my underwear/gym pants/pjs to make sure the shirt doesn't bundle up. Real classy
In a collared shirt... what does that even mean? When in doubt, wear a tie
Just a short sleeve collared shirt. One guy I interviewed with was dressed informally and I was in suit and tie, felt awkward so wanted to see if anyone else wasn’t doing that
Same for all my zoom interviews for SA, the other person was just wearing a t shirt, but I always wore a suit and tie just bc you never know what can cause a ding
You should definitely be in suit and tie
I lateraled to an EB in NY during COVID and dressed in business casual (dress shirt/dress pants) for every single zoom interview. I had over a dozen interviews so clearly it wasn’t too much of a deterrent for anyone and I didn’t get the sense anyone cared. Just feels strange being interviewed by someone in a T-shirt while you’re wearing a full suit but as with anything on this forum, my experience was purely anecdotal
Yeah but your former employer did the sorting for them, they knew you were normal/competent. Some college kid shows up biz casual they don’t know what they’re going to get.
If I see a candidate without a suit and tie I am dinging immediately. I get it, it sucks but it can convey the wrong image.
Got made fun of in a buy-side interview for wearing a suit and tie. Started going with a short sleeve dress shirt or polo since, got a BB/EB offer doing so. I think if you go casual you just have to own it, was not an impediment to me personally in getting superdays.
