Are Brainteasers still common?

See a lot of conflicting information on this - for analyst level interviews in SM/MM shops are brainteasers still common? I feel like every interview I've been through has done them but also see people say that they are less and less frequent. Does this differ if it's interviewing with a PM/Analyst? SM/MM?

Depends on the type of fund & role you are applying for. If you are applying to a role with a quantitative tilt to it (derivatives trading and/or macro trading) then brainteasers are fairly common in entry-level interviews. I have been asked brainteasers by people of all levels, right up to the very top (for businesses run by people with quantitative backgrounds). However, I believe is only a thing for entry-level roles as there is not much/no career knowledge to assess.

I think it wouldn't really make any sense to ask someone with 5+ YOE card & dice problems when the interviewers are more concerned whether they actually know what they have been doing in their jobs.
