Are funds even hiring right now given this environment?
Given that numerous funds have shut down this year (Ascend Capital, etc.), and given the horrible performance this year, are there any funds that are hiring for the Analyst position (2+ years after IB, for ex.)? Seems like the industry is struggling, and I imagine there aren't as many spots available right now, right?
It's really tight right now. Teams being blown out of the platforms (I work at one) and so external hiring at those firms is pretty much frozen. I'd wait until early 2019 to even start sniffing around. Still more teams to be blown out as we approach year-end.
Didn't realize there was that much carnage at the platforms. Is this L/S equity specific? Multistrategy perfomance wasn't that bad overall. But I guess individual teams getting blown out is to be expected. Some teams must be killing it though. Most of the platforms were flat in October I read?
It’s going to be very interesting to see performance.
In some ways there very risks management system is it’s own problem. Market gets a little weak and they all have to derisks causing more weakness.
And baly is the first. Cut 20% of staff. All in equities.
