Best entry career path to Hedge Funds

I am currently an undergrad at a semi-target uni and have an industrial placement year coming up. My long term goal is to move into PM side of Hedge Funds, appreciating you have to pay your dues elsewhere first. What I want to know, is whereabouts is the best place for me to go to pay my dues?

Considering mainly between Asset Management VS. Trading role from Sales and Trading - and perhaps need guidance on which is best suited for teaching me the level of skill required for moving forwards into HF.

I am looking at major BB investment banks as for my placement, however, specific AM companies are not totally off my radar.

I'm interested to understand people's thoughts on what will offer me the best career path towards PM at HF end goal.

Really? Why is that; when the two are on different Sell-Buy sides? I thought with something like AM at least you're on the Buy-side to begin with.

I take it the route from IBD would be going through PE before reaching a HF. Seems like a longer route though. I'd appreciate any more thoughts you have.

You dont tend to go from IBD to PE to HF it would be more likely be IBD to PE or HF. The skill set is very different and being good in PE or HF wont necessarily help in the other industry.

analysts at tiger global and gotham am that I talked to said that the best way to get in after undergrad would be to prepare great pitches and network like crazy, that being said a lot of people typically do ib (some also do pe) and then end up in hfs with some experience before/after business school
