Big MM pods in equities LS and quant
Hi,
I have been an equities analyst for 5+ years but feel like I've been living under a rock. What are some examples of big teams (individual MM pod) and how much GMV do they manage? I've heard of some managing 4-5B but curious to know who the really big guys are. For example how much the biggest teams manage in the likes of MLP/Citadel/P72/BAM etc, and what do they do?
Sorry if it's a silly question.
There are different approaches to pod size across firms. Citadel runs large books and depending on strategy they can be 2bn+. That usually includes sub-PMs or whatever you want to call junior PMs/senior analysts. MLP much more diversified and happy to run several smaller pods in the same strategy.
What’s the vol on GMV for a 2bn book? From my understanding, the vol is around 2-3% of GMV which is $40-60m. That’s not that big…
think slightly higher in %, but depends on seniority/terms. also depends on how many sub-PMs part of the overall book, because their terms tend to be different.
