Biotech Buyside out of Undergrad?
I'm a freshman at one of the top STEM schools, which isn't really a target for finance outside of Quant. My background is in Bioengineering and CompBio, with a lot of research experience, and upcoming publications.
I have noticed that the alums from my school in the biotech buyside were solely PhD's or MD/PhD's and none were undergrads.
Do I have a chance of breaking into the biotech buy-side out of undergrad? Could I prove myself to funds with my past research and knowledge of the biotech space? Or must I pursue an MD, PhD, or go into IB/ER or Consulting, before making the transition? Thanks!

It is definitely possible, Blackstone has a Life Sciences Group in Boston that does hire analysts. Another firm is Healthcare Royalty Partners. It really depends on what you want to do LT, as with Biotech investing, it can be super niche and cause you look at royalties on drugs it’s all about predicting the TAM/Market Opportunity forecasting top line correct and not wholesome modelling exercises. But a background like yours is definitely appreciated and would urge to at least look into possible seats in an economy like this where having an edge can really make the difference in securing offers. Good luck!
