Can someone explain how activist HFs are a different product from regular L/S?
I’m a student and I’m curious why activist HFs are seen as different products. Are the returns/risk different? Thanks.

As an activist, you're taking larger, more concentrated stakes and attempting to influence control over a company. You're not necessarily doing that at a "regular L/S" (not that there really is any such thing, but let's call it a "non-activist").
I understand what an activist HF does, but on average is the return profile different from L/S? Does it fulfill some requirement/factor exposure in a portfolio?
