Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some resources and suggestions for case studies that every fundamental investor should know:

  1. University Case Books:

    • These offer a plethora of case studies across various industries. You can find them by searching for a university + Case Book and a year. For example, "Darden 2013 Case Book."
  2. Business School Type Real Estate Case Studies:

    • Harvard Business School (HBS) has a wide range of real estate case studies, though they come at a cost. These can provide deep insights into fundamental investing principles applied to real estate.
  3. Value Investor's Club:

    • This platform has hundreds of write-ups on potential investments, which can be very useful for fundamental investors looking to understand different investment theses.
  4. Consulting Case Studies:

    • While these may lack the deep financial analysis of a real investment deal, they can help you think about strategic rationales and frameworks.
  5. Books and Resources:

    • Look for books recommended by practitioners of long-term, concentrated, deep fundamental investing. These can provide classic case studies and investment strategies.
  6. Q&A Calls with the Buy-Side:

    • Participating in these calls can give you a good flavor of a well-balanced investment thought process and help you understand the right questions to ask.
  7. Modeling Tests/Case Studies:

    • Platforms like Wall Street Oasis often have forums where users share modeling tests and case studies from major firms, which can be invaluable for practice.

For specific examples like CRM for SaaS, VISA/Mastercard for network effects, and COST for scaled economies shared, you might need to look into specialized case studies or industry reports that focus on these companies and their business models.

If you need more detailed resources or specific case studies, you might want to explore the links and forums mentioned above for comprehensive insights.

Acquired podcast is going to be your best bet for more recent case studies (recently did visa).

Outsiders is a classic book looking at a bunch of different companies (but older).

Investing with the titans is another one that prob has more of a focus on the company’s as a stock (case studies on a handful of industrial companies through the lens of analysts who covered them).

I’m sure there are also a decent number of HBS case studies that would be in this ilk as well. You can find some of them floating around the interwebs or I think you can also buy them for like $5
