chances for HF FT recruiting?
im just curious how difficult it would be to interview and get an offer during FT recruiting for firms like point72/citadel/millenium, given that internship recruiting is already so competitive and they still dont convert anyone
do they actually take anyone during grad recruiting, and if so, what kind of profile does one need?
Got grad at one, did an internship at another. Most people have a similar profile or IB/ER SA xp etc.
You’re asking the wrong question though, “how difficult is it” won’t give you an actionable answer.
What should I be doing? Working at a non C/M/P pod this summer
Have good ideas, and understand how markets work -> i.e big picture try to get a feel for flows, positioning and how these move week to week during your internship. What type of sector rotations are we seeing, why?
And then have good stock pitches, actionable ideas. Have a medium term fundamental view of the business but then express the trade as a derivative of the business, not the business itself
well, i did also ask what someone would need to do to be looked at - how can you demonstrate that youre good?
If you’re good it’ll come out naturally during interviews. There’s something to be said about just knowing a sector and business model, alongside starting to understand how a few stocks trade and what matters.
When I was interviewing as a senior for FT last year I’d come alive when talking about this stuff, and it gets noticed.
It's very difficult. Hope that answers your Q.
:( if its not impossible, what sort of things can you to prepare/get a shot at interviewing?
