Cold letters to hedge funds

Dear all,

I am looking to move into long/short equity hedge fund in London or New York. I think I have got the relevant experience and background ie bb banks and mega pe fund exp. I have already contacted headhunters about potential opportunities. However, I have heard recruiting for hf sometimes it is better to contact funds directly. I have already written a template for an introduction letter, I am just wondering whether anyone has done this before? How did u go about doing it? how did u get each fund's contact details ? What kind of things did u write in ur introduction letter?

Ur help is much appreciated.

Thanks
