Continuing Internship Recruiting After Getting an Offer

Buddy of mine signed an offer for an MMHF internship on fundamental side. He's happy but is also interested in quant. My questions is, if he applies for quant internships will he get his MMHF offer pulled? (Do the recruiters talk to each other?)

Based on previous WSO threads, here's what you need to know:

  • Risk of Offer Being Pulled: It's possible that if your friend applies for quant internships while holding an offer from an MMHF (Middle Market Hedge Fund), the current offer could be at risk. Recruiters within the finance industry often have networks and may communicate with each other, especially within niche areas like hedge funds.

  • Recruiter Communication: While not guaranteed, there is a chance that recruiters might talk to each other. This could lead to the MMHF finding out about your friend's continued search, which might be viewed unfavorably.

  • Professionalism and Transparency: It's crucial for your friend to handle the situation professionally. If he decides to pursue other opportunities, he should consider the potential consequences and possibly discuss his interests with his current recruiter to gauge their reaction.

  • Strategic Decision: Your friend should weigh the benefits of exploring quant internships against the risk of losing the MMHF offer. If the quant role is significantly more aligned with his career goals, it might be worth the risk, but he should be prepared for any fallout.

For more detailed advice, your friend might want to explore similar threads on WSO or consult with a mentor who has experience in hedge fund recruiting.

Talent based industry, should be fine as long as they don’t apply to the same fund
