I have two friends who were rejected after submitting their background checks. Neither of them failed the background check to their knowledge, but it appears that DE Shaw collects the background check info quite early in the process and it doesn't mean much.
Do you happen to know if they had background check before or after interviews and whether it was accompanied by reference checks as well?
I think they had background checks post interview and the references were part of it
