Event Driven to Activism - Possible?

I always wanted to break into activism. Understand its probably the most difficult HF class to break in, and that most people there do IB + PE (MF / UMM) and even MBA before

What about joining from an event driven fund? You´re betting on hard catalysts like breakups, M&A, spin-offs instead of pushing for them like an activist, but wouldn't the experience be relevant? You have to understand these situations after all

Am really referring to an event driven fund with a special sits / distressed focus vs just pure merger arb

What do you guys think?
