GPA for IR role

So I was just dinged for an IR role at a fairly large fund ( think Baupost, Elliot, Viking).

The headhunter informed that although my experienced matched what they were looking for and I presented well, my GPA was too low.

Has anyone else experienced this, your background matches but your GPA blocks you? I am four years out of UG for context.
