Wear a button up and dress pants on the first day and then you’ll get a sense. From my experience this varies quite a lot, even on an office by office basis within the same hedge fund. Just go with something relatively safe on the first day and you’ll get a sense.

For the HF im interning for this summer its very much smart casual: polo + khakis is the usual. Also, im sure you can send an email to an HR contact and they can give you some direction, thats what I did before I started.

 

I’d show up in a suit, no tie though. Won’t look like a fool if you’re overdressed and isn’t so severe if you’re slightly underdressed
