hf interview conversion rate?

What is a normal conversion rate for hedge fund interviews? Does this change if you are interviewing post-banking instead of after 2 years on the buy-side?

How many companies should you be interviewing with if you want to feel like you have a reasonable shot of landing a job?

It is easier to land a hedge fund role if you already work on the buyside. Once you break in, it shouldn’t be hard to move around to other places if you need to.

That said, you will be constrained to hedge funds that have a similar investment style as the fund you have worked at. For example, if you worked at a multi manager for a while, it would be hard to transition to a longer term deep value fund.

The hardest part is breaking in to the industry. When I was in banking, I probably went through 20 different hedge fund interviews before finding landing one offer.
