How difficult is it to fundraise when founding a hedgefund. Is it entirely determined by your network, or does your pedigree play an important role? How much money could a senior investor at Tiger Global, for example, expect to raise? What about a PM at Millenium? What about a PM of an average performance pod? What about an experienced trader at Jane Street?

In general its very hard because there are a billion hedge funds out there and its hard to stand out unless your track is incredible, you have a big name/rep, and/or some big investors back you early.

Well sometimes another fund will seed you capital. There are also initiatives like cap intro on Sum Zero for this purpose.

Yes, it’s very hard and prestige matters, but track record and LPs will matter the most.
