How Intense is the FT P72 Academy / Pod Life Style

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the schedule/topics/assignments look like for the P72 Full-Time Academy? And how the hours/intensity goes from start to finish?

After u graduate and ur in a pod, ramping is intensive (80+ hours a week?) and earnings season is too, but given ur large coverage, is there ever a break/less intense time periods and how frequent is that? I can't imagine working 7 days a week, full 14hr days is sustainable for 90% of ppl?

I understand that the P72 Full-Time Academy is hard and most say its like 100 hours a week at its peak, which I assume (hopefully) lasts a few months? I am fine with it being intense if it means I am learning a lot but I want to try to learn most of the things/gain experience before starting FT.

Also, from what it seems, most L/S SM funds are open to recruiting from P72 just not the tiger cubs right? (in-case I get burnt out of intra-Q/Q trading)

Sorry for the multiple questions

I between earnings is less “intense” from an hourly POV

from a stress POV? That magic number your PM sees every minute will dictate that.

What % of PMs/teams at P72 r there that actually allow u to breathe air outside of earnings season?

I wouldn’t think this way for several reasons

  • Most L/S funds now have no choice but to pay attention to quarters and think most people in the industry would agree the actual work done at TCs/similar SMs does not differ much from that at a pod, exception being activist funds which of course is an entirely different strategy (if you’re interested in that obviously don’t go to P72 Academy)
  • The big SMs are ‘open’ to recruiting from pods - you will see at LP/Viking/Steadfast/Junto and definitely at pod cubs - but seats are rare and highly competitive so it’s not for ‘in case you get tired of trading quarters’ and you still have to trade quarters (see above)
  • Smaller SMs ($2b) are open to a wide variety of backgrounds but the blowup risk is actually higher vs pods so you’ll probably be more stressed out not less (by a portfolio that’s mostly out of your control)

Placement rates have been rough some years, that’s not normal though.

And yes, the Academy is incredibly rough, best training I could’ve gotten but easily the worst year of my life…any many people in the job feel this way but there’s no free lunch
