I want to hear from you

I’ve got a mandate to further develop my team so I want to get feedback and insight from analysts and PMs on what makes your team work really well, and what to avoid. Share here or DM me, really appreciate it!

Our style is L/S low net with a sector focus. I’ve run larger teams (up to 7 analysts) before but had much larger sector/asset coverage. For the past couple of years my team has been a bit thinner, and less experienced.

Analyst questions:

(1) How do you work with your PM or sr. Analyst? What is the nature and key deliverables that you focus on?

(2) How much collaboration is there across roles on the same name?

(3) What is your general view on the above? What do you like about it / dislike?

(4) How involved are you with the team? Is it all consuming or is there a lot of autonomy?

(5) What sort of scheduled meeting structures do you run? Which are beneficial / useless?

For fellow PMs:

(1) How do you manage coverage with analysts? If you have 2-3 and can expand, do you step back from coverage or use analysts as research assistants on yur own ideas / work? What seems to work best?

(2) How do you keep the team motivated? What seems to work here? How do you give recognition to analysts?

(3) What sort of meetings do you run and how do you like them structured?

(4) How do you manage ramping/training analysts to your style while running your process? Do you combine those or do it sequentially?

(5) Any other tips / advice.
