IB to HF (Skipping 2+2)
How common is it to skip 2 + 2 and go directly to HF after your analyst stint? I know it’s not a common path, and I would assume it’s only a possibility if you’re coming from a top group, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done it, as well as any advice and how timelines look. Thanks!
Take this with a grain of salt, but I think it’s more common than you’d think. A lot of my classmates and colleagues did their IB stints and moved to a HF with no issues. Some went the PE route, others VC, and a smaller percentage to a fund. I think it’s totally doable if you network properly and are in an IB group that’s somewhat relevant to a fund’s strategies.
A personal anecdote, I left sponsors M&A, to work on acquisitions at a tech company, now I’m recruiting for investment analyst roles. Though you’d think I’d be at a major disadvantage, I’m still getting interviews.
