Is it important to read the item under "risks" on a 10-K?
Have been in the habit of reading a lot of 10Ks recently to understand the company I am researching -- a lot of the beginning items -- namely the risks section -- that are required in every 10K often seems redundant, generic and doesn't offer too much information about the company. Anybody have an opinion on this, as well as generally their process of reading a 10K?
Yes, read the risks section. That said, you can skim and determine in .2 seconds if a particular paragraph is just boilerplate legalese and move on. What catches my attention is when you start seeing actual numbers quantified in sections.
