Is this salary normal for a L/S hedge fund?
Hi, currently a VP in IBD in London. Current salary is £160k and bonus usually 100%.
I'm interviewing for a investment/research analyst position at a L/S hedge fund offering £80,000 with bonus expectations 50-75%.
Is this normal or on the low end?
Low end but also driven by the fact you’re VP in IB so moving laterally will require you to take one step back since you probably don’t have the skill set to operate as someone with that level of experience as you in the HF business.
It’s on the low end for sure, sounds like a single manager type deal. Sounds like AKO actually.
No one would really care about your IBD experience tbh, it’s a very different role, so whether you’re a VP or a 2nd year analyst HF’s won’t care.
That said comp tends to go up quickly IF you’re successful.
AKO has been hiring recently but I'd be surprised if pay is that low...
Yes AKO is £80k base for Y1 and below market
At your seniority you should definitely be asking for at least whatever you made last year as Y1 guarantee to compensate a bit for the career risk youre taking
How does AKO comp ramp up over years, or is it normally going to be below market?
Not sure on ramp but the upside is supposed to be from partnership which you can get a sense of from their companieshouse accounts - profits per ‘member’ - though keep in mind this is of course disproportionately accruing to the most senior/founding partners
WSO title is old; Went from associate 2 at a bulge bracket IB to a MM L/S seat that paid more than £120k salary
