Negotiating start date
Got an offer from one of the MM's located in a different state as an experienced hire, not extremely far (1.5-2hr each way) but would definitely prefer to move there especially given the team is all there. HR asked me to start literally within a week, but I still have to deal with my current lease and moving out,.
Looking to ask for a 2-3 week delay especially since we never agreed on anything in the first place. Is this reasonable? It seems they want to fill the seat urgently and I'm worried they'll just tell me to make the commute in while sorting everything out which seems impossible given the time it takes to ramp up, etc.
I’ve always asked for at least a month between the end of my existing job and the start of a new job, especially when there’s no garden leave. You need time to recharge your batteries so you can give in 100%. You don’t want to start a new job and be half focused on relocating, or still burnt out from your last job.
Yes. Perfectly reasonable to request 2 week delay to start date for relocation reasons. In fact, usually they give relocation money. Said MM is probably trying their luck.
