Non-Finance Guy Interested In Hedge Funds
I am studying to be a physician. I will be making enough money to invest in a hedge fund, but I am more interested in starting one on my own.
However, I have no formal education in finance. I think I'm a smart guy, and I have a passing familiarity with finance (I could pick Ackman and Cohen out of a lineup, for instance) but most of you guys would likely blow me out of the water.
That said, is it possible to learn how to manage a hedge fund without formal education or work experience?
I was thinking about starting a HF when I had accumulated maybe $3-5 million. My expectations aren't extremely high, as I am only looking to earn maybe $500,000 a year from a hedge fund. Possible, or am I dreaming?
Thanks for any advice or critiques!
I'm going to jump in here before the sharks eat you alive. And I'm going to keep it simple.
1) Yes anyone with any background could become a great investor. But, its an uphill battle.
2) Start with your PA. If you build out $3-$5 million, you'll make more than $500k in good years investing into an index
3) Sounds like you're many, many years away from such a scenario. How is a physician going to have time to be a full-time investor?
4) A HF is just an operating structure. Just FYI.
ONLY 500k?!
